"Renewel" at Capital Pavilion

Here is the branch project in progress, it will be installed on the 3rd floor of the Capital Pavilion Building at 28th and Capital. The final piece will be about 9 feet by 4 feet. The piece is ready for the powder coater and will it will have a clear glossy finish. Ill post more pics when its all done.

A new home for Evolution

I just delivered this piece to a client last week and she sent me pictures of the piece on top of her mantel. It looks fantastic in the space especially with all of the the splashes of red she has in her house.

Immersion - New Gel Fireplace Design

Another recycled steel piece, I cut this design out of a plow disc then added a patina to it. This is perhaps one of my favorite new designs. Watch out when you give a girl metal balls to play with!

New Lighted Metal Wall Art

This is a commission piece I just finished and shipped off to New York City. This piece was once a rusty plow disc that was sandblasted, then cut with a plasma cutter. I added the backing to it and used my grinders to create the texture. The client wanted to try an amber light in it and I really liked the affect of the amber with the earthy color of the patina.

Moonscape Gel fireplace

Here is a new gel fireplace piece that I've just finished and its almost ready for the powdercoater. This is a brand new design for me and I'm very excited about it.

I'm a tad indecisive about this one as I love it as it is with the surface of the red moon part being pure but I'm also toying with the idea of adding something to it. I thought it would be a fun exercise to get all of your opinions on it. Let me know if you like the minimalistic aspect or if you would like to see something else on the surface of the moon... let's just call this interactive art!

New Gel Fireplace Commision

This is a new piece that I just finished and it's ready for the powdercoater! This was a commission that came from the KVIE art auction last August. I had one of my Evolution gel fireplaces on the auction and it retails for $400. During the auction there was a bidding frenzy for the piece and it went up to $800. Shortly after the bidding stopped I got a phone call from a woman who missed out on the bid and she commissioned me to make the piece. She is an artist too and came over to the studio at various stages of the production and gave input on piece.

She is putting the piece in her fireplace and so the "twigs" will extend outside of the fireplace into the mantel.

Completed Memorial Piece!

I just completed this piece for our dear friend Donald. It is a memorial piece for his husband/partner, Bob Poplawski who passed last year.

Donald liked one of my pieces with this top and we decided to make it a larger piece by adding the long base. The blue LED light runs through the base of the sculpture and the intensity of the light grips your heart on an emotionally level.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out and even though I did not know Bob, I know that he was an art lover and feel that it would have been something he would have loved.

New Studio Space!

I've recently moved my display studio space to the Kennedy Gallery and Art Center at 1114 20th St. The building is right next to Headhunters across from Faces. Its a beautiful space, with high ceilings and an opening feeling. I'm so excited because it gets a lot more traffic than the Sac Art Complex and it has more of a gallery feeling with acid washed floors, white walls, and the high ceilings.

I'm there with several of my artist friends including Michelle Mackenzie, my studio mate, Judith Monroe, Angela Ridgway, my work studio mate, Micheal Kennedy, Brenda Boles, Pat Orner and Kieth Hopkins, Phil Meyers and Susan Rabinowitz!

SN&R Newstands

This a the newstand I just finished for the Sacramento News & Review. 20 artists from the SAC decorated newstands and they will be on display April 11th 2nd Saturday at 2110 K. Street.

The wild paint job was done by Jessie Brooks and all the metal was done by me of course!

New Fire Tables!

I'm so excited about my new fire tables. I've created these cute little aluminum tables (all recycled metal) and they have a hole in the center for the Sunjel can! My good friend Kanika is making beautiful glazed ceramic rings to go in the center so that the heat is absorbed by the clay and not the metal.

My Favorite Pastime

Well besides actually being in my studio and making metal sculpture, my other favorite past time is looking for recycled metal for my sculptures.

As a metal sculptor, I use almost all recycled metal. The piece of metal becomes the inspiration for my work. How can I transform this industrial, greasy rusting castoff into a beautiful piece of art?

The color, shape, and texture all come together to inspire my creation. In a lot of cases I let the metal "talk" to me and it leads the way to the piece. In other situations I have a vision in my head and I go to the scrap yard envisioning the exact thing I need and about 90% of the time the scrap yard provides what I had in my head! Its an amazing thing that happens.

I love the process of walking through a football field full of bins with every kind of metal imaginable. Its like Christmas to walk up and see what is hiding in the next bin. And when I find the perfect treasure of punched out circles or copper tubing for my fire sculptures I'm elated! I love knowing that i'm doing just a little bit to contribute to helping out the environment by saving the metal from decomposing in some landfill for hundreds of years.

Look at the excitement in finding the perfect piece of expanded metal! Ha.

Fire Sculpture

Hi all,

It's been a while and my goal for this year is to update my blog regularly! One of my other goals is to make a big leap with the fire sculptures. I will be putting a lot of emphasis on the fire pieces and creating a variety of fire sculptures in different price points.

This is a recent commission I completed that incorporated several different designs. It uses alcohol gel for the flame source.

Getting Closer

Its getting closer! The show is in less than 2 weeks and I feel like I'm in pretty good shape. I've been in the studio constantly and have some exciting pieces. I will probably end up with over 20 pieces total for the show. I end up thinking I'm crazy half the time like what was I think committing to filling that huge gallery again. But I know it will be all worth it in the end.

I will have about 4 propane fire pit sculptures that will incorporate recycled metal. All the sculptures will be outdoor sculpture and the other fire sculptures will utilize sunjel for the fire aspect. I'm also working on wall pieces that will utilize LED lighting and el wire.

I've been working in the studio a lot lately on the new pieces for the show in March. It will be at the Artisan Gallery 1901 Del Paso March 8th from 6-10!

The show will feature new fire and light sculptures. I'm going bigger this year with more fire on each piece and a bit more extravagant.

It took me a while to get going but now I'm on a roll. Here are some preview pics...

New Gallery Opens!

Hi all, I'm please to announce that I have worked with a group of artists to open up a temporary gallery for the holidays. The gallery is in Country Club Plaza right next to Ross. Its a beautiful space and all ready for holiday shopping!

Fire and Light Show

The show was a huge success... really more of a fantastic party with great music, fire dancing, and of course amazing metal sculptures. The night went very quickly and I sold three pieces and the gallery was thrilled with the turnout.

I'm frantically getting ready for my new show Fire and Light at the Artisan Gallery March 10 1901 Del Paso Blvd.

I'm making all new sculptural pieces and they are all fine art sculptures.

I'm very excited about the show and I did the show mainly because I wanted to push myself. Throughout the process I have had to figure out how to hook up propane gas to some of the pieces and also how to attach neon lighted wire to the works. Its stretched my mind body and soul to the limit but its been a great journey for me.

Origins Sold!

I'm happy to report that I sold the recycled metal sculpture called "Origins". This was my first venture into what I call "Fine Art" and I'm so happy that "She" went to a good home. The buyers purchased the sculpture for their son-in-laws new office. I met them at the Crocker Art Museum and it was such a great connection.

Never fear though because I'm working on addition metal sculptures in the same series and even bigger versions of that piece with different recycled metal.

Current Happenings

I've spent the past several weeks getting my studio in order... organizing metal and cleaning for days. I got a new large air compressor in and just tried it out last nite... it cuts through the metal like butta.

I'm working on a large project for a Restaurant in San Carlos... I'm doing two metal signs and a trellis piece for them.

Also, working with an art consultant to do a logo piece for a board room.

Other bids are for a moon gate and possible public art project! I'm a busy girl.

Plus getting ready for the American Arts Show October 27, 28th and 29th at the Civic Center Downtown Sacramento, then St Marys November 19th, Crocker Art Museum Thanksgiving Weekend and Open Studios Dec 2-4 at Stellar Studios. Busy busy busy.

"Origins" $490

This is my new favorite piece. It is about 18 inches tall and about 12 inches wide.

It represents the beginning and the end... the ripping apart and coming together of the soul.

Im in the process of making bigger ones right now that will stand about 5-6 feet tall and I'm going to run a copper wire up the base so that a small flame can be lit inside the crack.
